The late Dan Marburger has been nominated for a national award.

According to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, the annual Citizen Honor Awards will be held in Arlington, Virginia to recognize five U.S. individuals as well as one nonprofit organization who has demonstrated great values in their community. Among the nominees is the former Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger and will be receiving posthumously, the 2024 Single Act of Heroism Award.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society is giving Marburger the accolade after his selfless act to save as many lives as possible when a Perry student opened fire at the high school on January 4th, 2024 and later died from his injuries. The other recipients getting awards include Jakob Thompson of West Palm, Florida; Bryan Stern of Tampa, Florida; DeJuan Strickland of St. Louis, Missouri; and the organization being honored is the American Corporate Partners out of New York City, New York.

The ceremony will take place this coming Tuesday on National Medal of Honor Day.
