With several no school days with the Greene County School District having occurred since the start of the second semester due to winter weather, alterations have been made to the calendar.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says the decision was made to convert a few of the early dismissal Mondays into a full school day.

“So we’ve now had five cancellation days for the second semester, which it’s a lot of hours and time out of the classroom that our teachers were asking to have back, and so that’s what we’re doing. And it also prevents us from having students go after Memorial Day, as well to add to their calendar, but teachers will still have a couple of contract days left after Memorial Day.”

Abbotts reminds everyone that one of the main decisions to cancel school because of weather is considering the younger drivers and putting them in that situation where there is risk to their safety. He points out that even though the staff fully support professional development time that is etched into every school calendar, they had requested using those days to get that educational time back with students. The three days that are now full student learning days include March 24th, April 18th and May 22nd.
