The Greene County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is going to have its 43rd Annual Banquet and Auction next Saturday.
Steve Karber is with the local Ducks Unlimited organization and says they are part of the largest conservation organization in North America that focuses on developing wetlands, using conservation practices to improve overall water quality and that in turn brings more wildlife habitat. He points out that while all of the proceeds are elevated to the national Ducks Unlimited organization to help with their priority projects, there have been some conservation efforts made locally.
“We’ve had projects at Snake Creek Slough near Rippey, at Goose Lake here north of Jefferson, Dunbar Slough, (and) Cedar Grove. So major amounts of money have gone into those projects, some of them in conjunction with the other conservation organizations (such as) NWTF, the National Wild Turkey Federation; as well as Pheasants Forever, along with from Iowa, those sorts of things.”
Karber says last year, the national organization impacted 1 million acres of wetland habitat across the country.
Tickets are $40 for a single membership and $60 for a couple. Karber states next Saturday, the doors will open at 5:30pm at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds for a social time, games and raffles, followed by the meal at 7pm with prime rib and turkey, along with sides provided by Bet and Bev’s Barbecue in Jefferson. The auction will then follow the meal.
