The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, resident Dale McDonald announced that he wants to resign as the Hardin Township Trustee and recommended Mike Bravard be appointed. The Board agreed to consider the recommendation at their next regular meeting.

Then during reports, County Attorney Thomas Laehn said the Opioid Settlement Allocation Committee had received two applications for funds, including Midwest Wellness and Recovery and the Greene County Peace Officer’s Association. He reported that the committee will formally interview each applicant this Thursday at an open meeting at 8:15am in the boardroom of the Greene County Courthouse and will recommend approval to the Supervisors with separate 28E agreements.

County Engineer Wade Weiss then gave an update. He said there was an apparent low bidder for a bridge replacement project on the county line with Carroll County of over $855,000 and Local Traffic Services was the lower bidder on the pavement markings project of over $124,000.

Next, the Board approved a Louis Dreyfus funding request for the Grand Junction 50107 Summerfest of $2,500 this year for the event, as well as next year. Then, they approved a resolution directing Laehn to file a petition to intervene on behalf of the county with the Iowa Utilities Commission and the proposed second phase underground carbon dioxide pipeline project with Summit Carbon Solutions.

Laehn said the petition included several reasons for the county to intervene with the project with  crossing drainage districts, county roads and the Raccoon River Valley Trail, all of which the county is responsible for maintaining, and the people of Greene County have an interest in the outcome of the pipeline. Laehn noted that the only way for the county to present its data to the IUC during the permit application hearing is by filing a petition to the IUC to consider allowing them to speak.

The Board also approved a resolution to distribute the preliminary official statement for $11.5 million of general obligation urban renewal capital loan notes as presented, transferring from the American Rescue Plan Act funds to the general basic fund $8,190 for work that Brooks, Borg and Skiles Engineering did for the HVAC project for the courthouse and $4,000 for Optimize Systems for their work. Finally, the Board set April 7th at 8:30am for the public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for the 2026 fiscal year.
