The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.
The Council approved two final readings to amend ordinances, including the use of fireworks to align with the state law for residents to shoot off consumer fireworks, and changing the sewer rate to ten percent starting the next fiscal year on July 1st. They also approved the first reading to amend another ordinance of the types of trees that are allowed and prohibited to be planted on the public easements, as well as required planting distances. The tree species is based on the approved list with Trees Forever and the distances are 25 feet between trees that are low growing and 45 feet for larger trees, with minimum distances from sidewalks and curbs.
The Council also approved the library to create a 501(c)3 entity to raise funds for the expansion project, and renewing the city’s property, liability, and workers compensation with Unger Insurance without additional changes to the deductibles. Next, the Council approved the eighth change order for the Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project for an increase of $107,703 for 11 noted changes and a proposal by Bolton and Menk to conduct a development and feasibility study with the golf course and the Greenewood Community Center. It was mentioned that the study would focus on the city acquiring the community center and renovating it to be a golf course clubhouse, removing the current structure at the golf course, along with the parking lot and trees for a possible housing development. The city’s portion for the $46,700 fee is $5,000, with Greenewood paying $5,000 and Greene County Development Corporation paying the remainder of the total.
