re-taxes

A portion of property taxes are running up against a deadline.

Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the second half of property taxes are due on March 31st. She says if the payment is being mailed, then it must be postmarked on or before March 31st in order to avoid a late penalty fee. She states that if a property owner makes the payment via the drop box on the east side of the Greene County Courthouse after 8am on April 1st, it is considered late.

Mechaelsen points out that there is a late penalty of 1.5 percent that is assessed on the parcel monthly. She adds that as of March 26th, there was about $4 million left of property taxes in the county to be paid.

Mechaelsen adds her office accepts a variety of ways for property taxes to be paid, including cash, checks, credit/debit cards, via the drop box on the east side of the courthouse, paid over the phone, or online by clicking here.
