Chad Black and Chad Schwander are in their first seasons in their positions as boys’ soccer head coach and assistant, respectively, for Greene County boys’ soccer. However, both have extensive coaching experience in Youth programs here, so the duo has coached nearly everyone of the Rams’ roster previously.

That includes the eight letter winners from 2024 that are back this season. That list includes Marcus Ball, Jacob Harmeyer, Ethan Carstens, Teagan Chisholm, Carter Hinote, Lincoln Schwander, Edior Flores, and Freddy Aguillar.

Those eight, plus several others, will aim to continue the outstanding reputation of boys’ soccer here. The Rams have had their own program since 2018 and have recorded winning records every season including going 11-3 last year, have won at least one postseason game every year, and have qualified for three State Tournaments. There was no 2020 season due to COVID-19.

First team All-State player Gesser Gutierres graduated last May, as did his 49 goals in 11 games played. The coaches don’t see that kind of goal scoring from any one player this season, but suggest several players could score in the 10-15 goals range.

The Rams scrimmage Le Mars on Saturday in Denison, then open the regular season on March 31 vs. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference opponent Grand View Christian (Des Moines) at 7:15 p.m. in Jefferson at Linduska Field. The game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
