As the Greene County boys’ soccer season is about to get underway with a scrimmage tomorrow and the regular season opener on Monday, senior Jacob Harmeyer visited with Raccoon Valley Radio. Harmeyer is in his last sport for Greene County after fracturing his wrist in January while warming up for a wrestling meet. He missed the rest of that season, and is looking forward to wearing a uniform for the Rams one last time.

Harmeyer expects to be at right midfielder this season after being a left back row player in 2024. He said he’s moving to a more offensive position, which sits well with him. “I’ll still help out on defense, but mostly offense.”

Boys’ soccer at Greene County High began in 2018 and there was no 2020 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but every season the Rams have played, they’ve had a winning record, won at least one postseason match, and made three State Tournament appearances. Harmeyer thinks the Rams will keep that tradition going. “I think we’ll be just as good this year. We have a lot of new players, so it will be interesting to see where everyone will play. It’ll be a lot of pitching in from under classmen as well,” he added.

The Rams return seven other letter winners in addition to Harmeyer from the 11-3 team in 2024, but 49 goal scorer Gesser Gutierres graduated, as did four year starting goalkeeper Gabe Ebersole, and other starters. Head Coach Carl Behne resigned and moved away, which allowed longtime assistant coach Chad Black to move to the head coaching position. Chad Schwander is the new assistant coach.
