The Iowa Department of Natural Resources recently recognized a city in Dallas County for ways they help the environment.

According to a press release, the DNR is honoring the City of Adel with the Tree City USA Award. The DNR states that the requirements to receive the honor is for the town to have a city forester or an active city tree board, have a tree ordinance, spend at least two dollars per capita annually for its community forestry program, and have a tree planting and maintenance plan. Adel is part of 71 other cities that were recognized for the award. 

According to the release, the other categories include the Tree City USA Growth Award, the Tree City of the World, the Tree Campus USA Award, and the Tree Line USA Award. An award ceremony will be held by the Iowa DNR and the Arbor Day Foundation on April 3rd at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny.
