Perry High School is preparing for their spring musical, as performances will be this weekend.

Musical Director Randy Peterson shares they are doing a production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” which will see six students competing against each other while taking away life lessons in the process. He points out a unique aspect about the show is that students will invite four audience members on stage to go head-to-head in the spelling competition. Senior Olivia Christensen, who is portraying Olive Ostrovsky as her best friend is a dictionary, describes how she thinks the dynamic between the crowd and actors will play out.

“I think what’s fun is that since we’re the actor, we know what’s going on, but since they (audience members) are just participating out of the blue, that it will be funny seeing how they react, and see how they play along, but I also think that it’s really fun to know that the audience is getting involved because the people who are watching, it’s not just them seeing a musical that’s put together, it’s seeing some things that are more spontaneous and interesting.”

Peterson says that tickets will cost $8 for adults and $5 for students, which can either be purchased online or at the door during the three show times. He details that the musical is happening at the Perry Performing Arts Center, 1200 18th Street, this Friday and Saturday at 7pm, and a Sunday matinee at 2pm. To buy tickets online, click here.
