Greene County ISU Extension is gearing up for Extension Week next week and they are kicking off the festivities tomorrow.

Extension Director Jeff Lamoureux says they are hosting Java and Juice with Jefferson Matters tomorrow from 9:30-10am to share with attendees the services and programs that they offer to the community. Then during Extension Week from April 7th-12th there are a variety of activities.

Lamoureux says on Monday there will be a presentation by Dr. Adam Thoms on Lawn Care 101 from 10:30am-noon. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Dr. Thoms is an assistant professor that specializes in commercial turfgrass management at ISU who is well known for a major breakthrough.

“And if you don’t know Dr. Thoms, most notably if you’re an Iowa State fan you might know, a couple of years ago when they redid the turf on Jack Trice Stadium, where they grew their own sod, out at the horticultural center. It’s kind of the first of a kind in the United States. Dr. Thoms was kind of instrumental in that. I call him, ‘The Grass Guru.’”

Then on Tuesday from 10am-noon, Lamoureux says Office Manager Cindy Adamson will be doing a Make and Take Meal of Crock Pot Crack Chicken, where people can bring in their crockpot, fill them up with the appropriate ingredients and then take it home and cook it. Wednesday will be a Business Career Camp for first through third graders from 4-5:30pm and Thursday ISU Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt will lead an activity on making your own container garden from 9:30-11am.

Lamoureux adds that all programs and activities are free and take place at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson.
