The Greene County Community Foundation gave out over $250,000 in grants on Sunday night in Jefferson.

GCCF President Patty Fisher said there were 21 grant recipients that received a total of $253,907, with the largest amounts maxing out at $35,000 that went to two organizations, the Greene County Conservation Board and the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department. The Greene County Conservation Board is going to do a rural water hook up with Xenia Rural Water District at Squirrel Hollow Park and JPRD is going to completely update the playground equipment at Washington Park.

Another grant that was just under the $35,000 threshold for GCCF, was the Scranton Alumni Association that received $34,000 as board member Dawn Rudolph explained that they are wanting to renovate an upper story room of the community center.

“So if you ever went to school there prior to 2008 and went upstairs, you’d take a trip back in time, pretty much. We have removed a few things but it still looks kind of the same. So it’s ready for an update. The kids currently use it for the Scranton Bus Stop and they would love to see some improvements up there. We’ve been fundraising and saving and so now we’re ready for that next phase in that facility.”

Fisher added at the end of the evening that GCCF is celebrating its 20th anniversary as she talked about how much total money their organization has given out.

“We are almost to the $2.7 million of what we’ve been able to fund out over the past 20 years. So it’s been a lot of fun being part of your projects, so keep it up.”
