There’s only a few days left for any young, aspiring hunters that need to take a Field Day component to take advantage of an opportunity in Greene County.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Aron Arthur is going to be leading the Field Day on Sunday, April 13th from noon-4:30pm at Slininger Woods, located at 1430 Jordan Avenue in Jefferson. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there is an online portion that must be completed first before attending the Field Day to receive the Hunter Safety Education certificate. Arthur points out the program on April 13th is intended for youth that are 12 to 17 years old. He strongly urges youth to attend the Field Day to get first-hand experience of using a firearm properly.
“We have ‘live fire.’ So those of you that haven’t handled a firearm, we do gun handling, we also get to go and shoot. So those who have never even shot a gun, it helps us to give you a chance shoot a 22 (caliber rifle), work through that gun; and then also get to shoot a 20 gauge (shotgun) at sporting clays at the clay range. So it gives you the ability at the in-person ones to get a little more hands on, especially for those who haven’t been exposed to gun handling, because that’s the number one thing that we’re pushing there is gun safety and gun handling.”
