Greenfield’s community theater group will be performing in three towns this weekend.

Cumberland Rose Players member Brenda Thaden mentions that they discussed with other groups that are part of Southwest Iowa Regional Theater, and thought that a performance of several shorter plays would be something fun and different to try. The Corning Players and Southwest Iowa Theatre Group will be the two other groups performing along with the Cumberland Rose Players, first in Shenandoah, then in Corning, and finishing up in Greenfield.

Thaden mentions that each group will have at least one 10 minute performance, with the Corning Players presenting “Door Bang” by Leslie Hewitt, while the Southwest Iowa Theatre Group will perform “1-800” by Joseph Sorrentino and “Anti-Depressants” by Jeff Weisman. She shares that the Cumberland Rose Players will be performing “Abbott and Costello” by Jonathan Mayer and “Who’s on First,” which was refined and performed by actors and comedians Abbott and Costello.

Thaden explains that “Abbott and Costello” is a reimagining of “Who’s on First,” where two teenage performers try, unsuccessfully, to rehearse a scene for their drama class. She states that for those who haven’t seen it before, “Who’s on First” is a skit where Abbott is identifying baseball players on a team for Costello, but their names also serve as the basis for questions, which leads to misunderstanding, confusion, frustration and hilarity. Thaden says “Abbott and Costello” will be performed by twin brothers Keland and Lyrick Schwartz, with “Who’s on First” performed by Phil Cannon and Sam Schwartz, who is the twins’ father.

The three groups will first perform in Shenandoah at the Park Playhouse at 7:30pm on Friday, then at the Corning Opera House at 7pm Saturday, and finish up the tour on Sunday at the Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield at 2pm. Tickets at the WCC will be available for purchase exclusively at the door for $10 for adults, while students high school aged and younger may attend for free.
