
The Adel City Council met in regular session on Tuesday.
According to Adel Mayor Jim Peters, the council approved a first reading of ordinance number 421 for the adoption of building codes relating to the storm shelter section of the new Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School. However, he explains that the council asked the Building Code Compliance Officer to gather more information on the integrity of the storm shelter and will have the second reading at the next meeting in May.
Peters indicates other items on the agenda that were approved included a resolution to accept the fiscal year 2025-26 budget, a resolution for a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Adel, the Adel Police Department, and the Teamsters Local Union 238 Affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a resolution to accept the fiscal year 2025-26 Non-Union City Employee Wages, and a resolution for a Pre-Annexation Agreement Template between the City of Adel and property owners.
Peters mentions that there was discussion, but no action on the Island Park Campground Lease and Operations as well as the proposed residential and commercial development along the north side of Meadow Road and west of Highway 169. The council also set a public hearing for the fiscal year 2024-25 budget amendments for May 13th at 6pm at Adel City Hall.
