
Good weather, although a bit on the windy side, greeted teams from Greene County High School on Thursday in the sports of golf and soccer. The Rams had a girl’ golf quadrangular at The Hill west of Grand Junction while the boys were in a three team event at Perry. Greene County had its girls’ soccer team at Carroll vs. the Tigers and the Rams hosted Carroll in boys’ soccer at Linduska Field.
The boys’ soccer match was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams won 2-0 to improve to 3-1 while the Tigers fell to 2-2. Junior Franklin Regalado scored first, just 12 minutes into the match. Junior Fredy Aguilar scored on a penalty kick with 23:55 left in the second half. The Rams have played three of their first four contests in Jefferson. They’ll be going to Panora on Monday to face the Panorama Panthers.
The girls from Greene County lost 5-0 to the Tigers at Carroll Athletic Field. Coach Wes Anderson reports Lucy Vander Linden had 15 saves. He felt the defense played well. Nala Losee had a shot on the for the Rams, who are now 0-4 with Carroll improving to 1-3. The coach said the play of freshman Faith Jaimes was a bright spot coming off an ankle inkle. He added freshman Shia Truong=Harrison played well in her first varsity appearance.
Greene County was second to Des Moines Christian at the Perry Golf & Country Club on Thursday. in boys’ golf. The Lions shot 149 for nine holes with 168 for the Rams and 237 for the Blue Jays. Freshman Keaton Hinote led the Rams with a 39, followed by junior Drew Wolterman at 41. Freshman Louis Schneider and junior Carter Hinote both were at 44.
In girls’ golf, Gilbert shot 168 to win a five team, nine hole, tournament at The Hill west of Grand Junction. Des Moines Christian shot 174 with Roland-Story (Story City) at 179. The Rams were fourth with 221 strokes for the nine holes and Perry was fifth at 240. Gilbert’s Ava Lohrback shot a 34 for medalist honors. The Rams were led by junior Taylor Johnston with a round of 50. Junior Maya Telleen shot 53, followed by senior Maggie Mikkelsen at 58, and junior Lila Osterson was next at 60.
