
One of the best track & field weather nights of the season greeted athletes and fans at Linduska Field in Jefferson for Friday’s Greene County Coed Early Bird Meet. The Rams were second among seven girls’ teams and third in a field of eight boys’ teams. Forest City won the boys’ team title with 138.5 points to 124 for Southeast Valley (Gowrie), and 108 for the Rams. Ogden boys had 93 points, followed by Manson-Northwest Webster 91.5, West Marshall (State Center) 71, Panorama 65, and Paton-Churdan 39. The girls team champion was Ogden with 158 points, followed by Greene County at 152.5, St. Edmond 109, M-NW 93.5, Panorama 86, SEV 59, and 18 for P-C.
Paton-Churdan sophomore Trevon Keely led the Rockets with four strong performances. He won the high jump at six feet, five inches, was first in the 100 meter dash at 11:42 seconds, placed second in the 200 meter dash in 22.82 seconds, and finished third in the long jump at 19 feet, 9-1/2 inches. He scored all but five of the Rockets’ team points. The P-C girls had a pair of fifth place finishes for their highest placing events.
The boys from Greene County had first place finishes in the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:36.79 with junior Aden Bardole, sophomore Zack Stalder, sophomore Lincoln Schwander, and junior Drew Wolterman, the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:34.44 with senior Crew Conner, Wolterman, senior Noah Hinote, and senior Nick Stream. and by senior Isaac Carman in the discus throw at 136 feet even.
Greene County’s girls won four events, one in a relay and three individually. Senior Emma Ewalt won the discus throw at 116′ 10″, with junior Becca Anderson taking first in the 200 meter dash in 27.16 seconds, then junior Kaycee Pittman won the 800 meter run in 2:33.58, followed by a victory in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:31.31 with Anderson, junior Addison Gannon, junior Lila Osterson, and Pittman .
