A new charge has been filed on a Scranton woman after a potential juror said she tried to talk him into acquitting her charges in a trial from another incident.
According to court documents, 27-year-old Conner Groves was arrested for a Class C Felony for tampering with a juror, which resulted in a mistrial for another case that she was involved in. Court documents show that during jury selection for the trial against Groves that alleged she burned down a home in Churdan, reported false information to the insurance company and theft from an October 2nd incident, one of the potential jurors said he was approached by Groves at a bar on April 6th, two days before the start of the trial.
The criminal complaint states that Groves found out the individual was going to be part of the jury pool and tried to convince him to be on the jury and to her not guilty of the charges. Court documents show that there were several other witnesses at the bar that saw the conversation take place and that the potential juror refused to comply with Groves’ repeated requests.
The affidavit says the trial was then declared a mistrial and an arrest warrant was issued on April 11th with the separate felony charge. Court documents show that Groves was arrested the same day and she was booked into the Greene County Jail, where she is held on a $1 million bond for the pretrial release violation, and a $10,000 bond for the new felony charge. A new trial date has been set in the October 2024 incident for June 17th. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
