The Carroll Coed Track & Field Meet was held on Monday under cool and windy conditions. Greene County placed fifth among 11 girls’ teams with 61 points and fourth in an 11 team boys’ field with 72 points. Perry won the team title for girls with 92 points and Ballard (Huxley) had 133 points to win on the boys’ side.
Ram senior Isaac Carman set a new personal best in the discus throw and put himself in position for a possible Drake Relays berth. Carman placed first by tossing the disc 159 feet, 2 inches, some three feet farther than he’d ever thrown and more than nine feet ahead of the 150′ 0″ toss that was his previous season best. There are still three days of competitions around the state for performances to be submitted for Drake Relays qualification. However, after the Monday night effort, Carman has put himself inside the top 24 statewide, and if that holds, he would qualify for Drake.
Other winning events for the Greene County boys was junior Drew Wolterman in the 800 meter run in 2:07.14, and the 800 meter medley relay in 1:41.47 with junior Aden Bardole, sophomore Zack Stalder, senior Nick Stream, and Wolterman.
The Greene County girls had no first place events, but the Rams were second four times. The 4 x 400 meter relay was second in 4:33.96 with Kaycee Pittman, Addison Gannon, Hailey Carman, and Becca Anderson. All four are juniors. Senior Emma Ewalt was second in the discus throw at 104 feet, 8 inches, and senior Payton Kokenge cleared the high jump bar at 4′ 10″, good for a runner-up finish. The 4 x 200 meter relay was second in 1:57.10 with sophomore Sara Morlan, Anderson, Gannon, and Pittman.
