Local military veterans were honored with a presentation from earlier this month.

Nine Greene County area veterans were given a Quilt of Valor for their service at the Rippey Community Room on April 6th. According to the Perry Area Piece Makers Quilt of Valor created and made the uniquely-styled quilts, as the history of the quilts was presented by Pat Mundy and there were seven Army veterans, along with one Airforce and one Marine that were recognized. The honorees included Dennis Young, Jon Savits, David Fountain, Billy Hamilton, Charlie Gunn, Dennis Ulrich, Frank Nation, Mike Scharingson, and Chris Kilmer.

According to the Perry Area Piece Makers, any veteran that was honorably discharged is eligible to receive a Quilt of Valor. The non-profit organization has made 150 quilts since their existence four years ago. Each quilt that is created includes fabric and batting that is over $300, along with in-kind donation of labor to put them together.
