A suspect is dead following a Tuesday morning law enforcement-involved shooting incident in Dallas County.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, while conducting a traffic stop at mile marker 104 on Interstate-80, a suspect without provocation, fired multiple shots at the Sheriff’s Deputy and the Stuart Police Officer that were on scene. The Sheriff’s Office reports that after the initial gunfire, additional law enforcement were dispatched to the scene that included the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Adel Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and several deputies from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office indicates that several more gunshots were fired at law enforcement, before there was return fire, where the suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, while the law enforcement members that discharged their firearms are on paid administrative leave, as per the Sheriff’s Office protocols.
