The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is assisting residents with an important initiative tomorrow.
Sheriff Jack Williams says they are participating in the National Drug Take Back Day, where the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) sponsors a country-wide effort for people to bring in any expired or unwanted prescription medications to law enforcement to be disposed of. Williams points out that people can also bring in controlled substances, all with no questions asked.
The National Drug Take Back Day is happening tomorrow from 10am-noon and the local location for Greene County is at the Law Enforcement Center County Jail at 204 South Chestnut Street in Jefferson. Williams adds that they collect about 200 pounds of drugs per year with this program. He says they accept prescription medications all year around at either the county jail location or at the Law Enforcement Center Administration building.
