A Las Vegas, Nevada woman was recently sentenced to federal prison for an incident that killed an individual in Jefferson.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District Court of Iowa, 34-year-old Alicia Hawkins was sentenced to five years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance that contained fentanyl and resulted in the victim’s death. The US Attorney’s Office says that Hawkins was identified as the source of a supply of fentanyl and on September 11, 2023 distributed a mixture that contained fentanyl and gave it to the victim in Jefferson, and who later died from a drug overdose. Court documents also show that she did not render aid to the victim, tried to conceal her involvement and then eventually went back to Nevada during the investigation.
The US Attorney’s Office says that after Hawkins serves her time in prison, she will be required to serve an additional five years under supervised release, and there is no parole with the federal court system in this matter. The case was investigated by the Jefferson and Des Moines Police Departments.
