The Greene County and Paton-Churdan track & field squads were in Audubon on Tuesday for the Bob Clark Coed Relays. The Rams scored 65 points for boys and finished in fifth place among 13 teams while the girls were second among 10 teams with 107 points. The girls’ team title went to Tri-Center (Neola) with 184 points and the boys’ title went to ACGC with 114 points.
First place finishes for the boys included a new meet record in the 4 x 800 meter relay in 8:19.97, some 22 seconds faster than the Rams had run the event this season. The old meet record was set in 1973. That quartet was senior Nick Stream, senior Crew Conner, senior Noah Hinote, and junior Drew Wolterman. Senior Isaac Carman won the discus throw at 153′ 00″.
Senior Emma Ewalt won the girls’ discus throw at 115′ 00″. There were three second place finishes for the Greene County girls. Those came from junior Becca Anderson in the 200 meter dash at 26.64 seconds, a personal best. Senior Payton Kokenge was the runner-up in the high jump at 4′ 10″ and the 4 x 400 meter relay was second in 4:24.36 with juniors Addison Gannon, Anderson, Kaycee Pittman, and Hailey Carman.
Paton-Churdan sophomore Trevon Keely went six feet, five inches to win the high jump, and he won the 200 meter dash in 22.95 seconds. Keely was second in the 100 meter dash in a season best 11.36 seconds. He was fourth in the long jump at 19 feet, five inches. The Rockets tied for tenth place with 34 points on the boys’ side and the girls were last with six points.
