Now that spring is in full effect, the grass has also turned grass and has been growing, with that in mind the city of Jefferson has a reminder about its grass ordinance.
Jefferson Building Official and Code Enforcer Chad Stevens tells Raccoon Valley Radio the city’s ordinance is that property owners must keep grass eight inches or lower to avoid a charge for the city crews to mow it for you. He points out that if a property owner’s lawn gets over eight inches, he will give them a notice for it to be mowed in 48 hours, and if the issue is not taken care of after that, then city crews will mow it for a $200 charge.
“And look, we don’t do the best job, alright? You could hire somebody cheaper than that and who will trim. We’re going to go in and just knock it down, you know, you’re not going to get any weed eating out of that. So you will get an invoice first. We’ll give you an opportunity to pay that, If, for some reason that doesn’t get paid it will end up as a lien against the property.”
Stevens adds that weeds are also included in the city’s grass ordinance that property owners must also keep weeds eight inches or lower.
