2024 Dallas County Fair Queen Courtney Wojtowicz

Applications are currently open to see who is going to be this year’s Dallas County Fair Queen, but registration will end soon.

According to Co-Coordinator Celeste Richardson, young women between the ages of 16 and 21 who live in Dallas County are eligible to apply. She highlights the other main criteria is that contestants must be an active member of at least one service organization in their community. 2024 Dallas County Fair Queen Courtney Wojtowicz tells Raccoon Valley Radio it’s been fun representing the county since last July, as she’s been apart of Perry’s Lighted Day Parade, the Dallas County Fall Fest Parade, and competed in the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest last August. She reveals while the competition is fun, the process will teach young women life skills.

“A lot of gals think that it’s really like a tough competition, which it is, but it also is about friendships, leadership and giving back to your community. It also will help you get skills to go into the future with. So my advice to any girl would be even if you’re hesitant, reach out with questions, or apply and come to one of our prep days and see if you like it, and see if it’s something you’re still interested in, and we can answer any questions or hesitations you may have. But I’ve gained so many friendships throughout it that it didn’t even feel like a competition.”

Wojtowicz describes that the past year has been a blur with so many exciting memories and has appreciated the county’s support. The applications are available here and will close at 4pm on Friday, May 23rd.
