Several Hy-Vee employees and other volunteers made their way to Greenfield Thursday to take a small step in helping the community continue to recover from the devastating 2024 tornado.

Hy-Vee Assistant Vice President of Communications Dawn Buzynski says that more than 30 employees made their way to Lake Greenfield to spend time planting trees to replace those that were lost in the May 21, 2024 tornado last year. She explains that during last year’s aftermath of the tornado, Hy-Vee employees made their way to Greenfield the night of the tornado to help with immediate recovery efforts, and the company made a promise to return and continue helping.

Buzynski mentions that in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, they brought 180 trees to plant as part of their Hy-Vee One Step program’s initiative to support communities that need it. She adds that they did a similar project just last week in Winterset to replace trees lost in the community from the tornado that hit the town three years ago.
