The Jefferson American Legion Post #11 recently recognized a high school student for her success from a competition.

American Legion Contest Chair Barb Labate says at their April meeting, sophomore Peyton Wadsworth was presented with a plaque for her third place finish in the American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program from the Department of Iowa American Legion Contest. Wadsworth previously said she had to write a speech based on the US Constitution and she focused on how she feels that the country is falling into a fascism state, with her speech that was entitled, “We the People.” 

According to Labate, between the local post contest level, and through the district, then area and at the state level, Wadsworth collected $1,600 in scholarships.
