As individuals prepare to mow their yards, residents of the larger towns of Guthrie County should keep in mind where the clippings from their yards go.

In Guthrie Center, residents could receive a citation and fine for blowing grass or other yard debris from their property onto streets, as it could wash or blow into the storm sewer and cause it to clog. In Stuart, a municipal infraction is punishable with a civil penalty of no more than $750 for the first offense, and no more than $1,000 for each repeated offense. Each day there is a violation, or that one is permitted to exist, constitutes a repeat offense. According to Panora City Code, it is unlawful for debris of any kind to be thrown, blown or deposited onto the streets, as it could cause clogs in the storm sewer or cause damage or injury to people, animals or vehicles.
