One of the most iconic structures in Greene County is now open for the weekends for the month of May.

Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower is open Saturdays and Sundays in May from 10am-4pm. He invites everyone to check out the tower and any guests that want to visit, there are trained tower guides that will give information and other tidbits of trivia about the four-octave carillon and the structure itself. Wetrich points out that at this time the elevator is being fixed and is not able to be used.

“However, the elevator is waiting for a new governor to come, and that’s not a political commentary, that is the part that keeps the elevator from going as fast as it wants to on the way down. So we’re waiting for that to come.”

Wetrich adds that because of the slight inconvenience, there will not be an admission charge for anyone to visit the tower until the elevator is repaired. Click here for more information about the bell tower and upcoming events.
