The top academic high school seniors from the Greene County area were recently recognized with one of the state’s top honors.

The Governor’s Scholar Award was presented to Greene County senior Hailey Carman, Paton-Churdan senior Grace Cullum, and Glidden-Ralston senior Lucas Christian, who lives in Greene County. The award is given to the top performing senior for their high academic achievements. Carman talked about her reaction to be the individual receiving the award and what the moment was like to be at the ceremony.

“It was really cool. I didn’t really know what it was when I first found out I got it. So when I got there and I was around all the people that also put in all the hard work, it’s just really fun to see all that hard work pay off.”

This recognition is based on the student’s first seven semesters of their high school career. Each student received a plaque and a certificate. The award is sponsored by Governor Kim Reynolds, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Farm Bureau.
