The final of the four turkey seasons is underway in Iowa.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that hunters have until May 18th to try and get a turkey before they have to wait until fall for their next chance. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a piece of information he shares with hunters to try and help them from making a mistake that could cost them.
“Sometimes people, if you didn’t fill your tag prior to one of the first, the second, or the third turkey season, and you still have that tag in your pocket, I always encourage people just to throw those away. That way you don’t accidentally stick that on a turkey if you hunt fourth season and put the wrong tag on them.”
King reminds hunters that if they are lucky enough to harvest a turkey, they are required by law to submit their mandatory harvest report by midnight of the day following when they harvested the bird. He adds that these reports can be submitted by using the DNR website, calling the 1-800 number on the turkey tag, or using the DNR’s free smartphone app, GoOutdoorsIA.
