The varsity soccer teams from Greene County High School were in action last night. The girls played in Colfax vs. Colfax-Mingo in a non-conference match while the boys were home at Linduska Field in Jefferson vs. PCM (Monroe) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.

Coach Chad Black’s Rams improved to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the HOIAC with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory vs. the Mustangs in a match heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Trailing 3-1 at intermission and 4-1 with 30:22 remaining in the game, the Rams mounted one of the great comebacks in program history. Junior Teagan Chisholm scored the only first half goal and the first of four second half goals. Junior Franklin Regalado scored to make it 4-3, then it was junior Fredy Aguilar and his teammates took over. With 5:55 remaining, Aguilar was on the backline to the left of the Mustangs’ goal with a defender on him when he shot from a difficult angle and tied the score 4-4. A PCM DOGSO (Denying an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity) penalty for fouling Aguilar in the box with just 16 seconds left meant a penalty kick. Aguilar scored on the PK into the left side of the net and the Rams won the game. Greene County is 6-2 while PCM fell to 1-7-1.

Greene County’s boys’ play Kuemper Catholic in Carroll today at the Knights’ soccer facility without lights on the southeast part of town. This is a make up match from earlier in the season and the varsity teams play at 5:30 p.m., followed by JV.

Coach Wes Anderson’s girls’ team lost 10-0 by the 10-goal rule with 30 minutes remaining in the second half. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio “Jocelyn Velasco had an incredible performance. She gave one of the best players in the state a headache She outran their leading scorer and held her to a couple of goals. Lucy Vander Linden had 11 saves and also played very well. Offensively, we did have a few attacks, but we weren’t able to hold possession long enough for us to have any shots.” C-M is 8-1-2 and the Rams are 0-11.
