The Jefferson Public Library is hosting a free program tomorrow with an Iowa author at Deal’s Orchard.
Angela Youngers wrote the book, “Another Dance” and she will be leading various interactive games during the Ladies Night event tomorrow at The Porch at Deal’s Orchard at 6:30pm. The English teacher at Waukee High School says her book is inspired by real life events. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the main character, Annie Obless, lost her husband and is raising two children. She states that Obless’ therapist suggested joining a dance class and the main character strikes up a relationship with her dance partner, the instructor. Youngers then tells the story of Obless through a series of flashbacks to her deceased husband and reflecting on the new relationship.
“Just to kind of show her struggles with grief. All the things that parents, spouses, and just women in society experience. I think it’s very easy to relate to. People go through struggles sometimes and they need a little help. There’s also the joy in life after we’ve gone through tragedy, and that’s what I tried to capture.”
Youngers explains the event tomorrow evening may not be what people are expecting.
“So I put together this program to be interactive. I want to have a fun night because that’s what this book is about. It’s talking about the challenges and the joys of being a person out in the world. This ‘Ladies Night’ program is also a chance to enjoy that. So I was like, ‘Let’s talk about these themes, but let’s also play some games, and have some fun together, and have some laughs.”
Youngers also invites men to the program who enjoy romantic stories. Following the party games, Youngers will talk about the book itself, her journey writing it to getting it published, she will also give a preview for her next upcoming book, as well as having copies of “Another Dance” available for purchase and getting a signed copy.
