As summer begins to grow near for the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs, the Mustangs softball and baseball team had their first taste of unofficial competitive action over the weekend. The Mustang boys faced off against the Ames Cyclones in Ames on Friday, while the Mustang softball team traveled to Ankeny Centennial Jaguars.

Last season, the Mustang baseball team would win their substate championship to advance to the 4A state championship quarterfinals where the Mustangs would fall 3-1 against Dowling Catholic ending the season with a 35-4 record. The Mustang softball team would also reach the state tournament, falling to Norwalk 3-1 in their consolation match ending the season with a 32-10 record.

The Mustangs baseball and softball teams look to return to the state championship this season and while they await the official start to the season towards the end of the month.
