The Adel Rotary Club recently pitched in to contribute to a project of an aspiring teen who is looking to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ty Landphair, who attends Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School, outlines that the rotary club, along with the American Legion Penoach Post 464, are assisting him by setting up flagpoles around Oakdale Cemetery in the community on Memorial Day for deceased veterans.

He acknowledges that the rotary club donated $350 toward the project. Landphair details his Scout Master sparked the idea in his head and believed it would be a great way to honor the brave men and women that served the United States of America. Landphair tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the local American Legion gave him the poles and then he raised funds to gather the remaining materials. He reveals that he didn’t always carry the desire to become an Eagle Scout.

“It wasn’t initially the goal because I started with Cub Scouts, and it was just that thing that your parents put you in. But as I got into it, it started to be a good experience for me and I did want to eventually become an Eagle Scout.”

Landphair illustrates that he’s already completed 36 poles and the remainder of his project entails going into the cemetery, drilling holes in the ground to provide more concrete for more space to fly the flags on Memorial Day. According to the national organization, Scouting America, Eagle Scout is the highest rank that a youth can earn in the organization.
