The AC/GC Chargers had two sports in action last night.
The girls golf team was at the Coon Rapids Golf Course, and came away with a team score of 232, falling to Coon Rapids-Bayard in the dual by only four strokes. Allie DeWitt led the team, coming in second with 53 strokes, while Ryle Robson had 59 strokes for fourth place. Ava Sneller and Lucy Knutter tied for fifth, with both recording 60 strokes, and Cora Fluharty rounded out the team with 75 strokes.
The boys track team hosted the Merritt-Charger Invitational, finishing in fourth place overall with 71 team points. The team didn’t compete with their usual athletes in some events, as Head Coach Cody Matthewson shared that now that the conference meet is over, those that can do so will rest and take it easy until the state qualifying meet, to allow them to be in the best possible condition for that meet. This meant that the team did not compete in any hurdle events, an area that they have excelled in all season, and have individuals ranked highly in for Class 1A.
The team came away with two gold, two silver medals and one bronze. The golds were secured by the sprint medley relay team of Joe Crawford, Brexton Schneider, Tate Fever and Eli Madsen with a finish of 1:37.76, and Mike Fuller in the shot put with a throw of 51 feet 2.5 inches. The silver medals were won by the 4X100 meter relay team of Crawford, Schneider, Luke Brincks and Madsen with a time of 43.24, and Fuller in the discus with a throw of 144 feet 7.5 inches, while the bronze was collected by Preston Kent in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:03.67.
