Greene County and Nevada met in high school soccer on Tuesday in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The girls were at Linduska Field in Jefferson and the boys played at the S.C.O.R.E. complex in Nevada.

Nevada’s girls are 8-5-2 and ranked ninth in Class 1A while the Rams are 0-14  after the Cubs won 13-0 in just one half of play. In Iowa high school soccer, if one team leads by 10 or more goals at halftime or later, the game ends at that point. Teams must play at least one half, and that’s what happened on Tuesday night. Nevada’s Avery Anderson had seven goals.

The boys’ match ended in a 3-3 tie, the first draw of the season for both teams. The Rams are now 6-3-1 and the Cubs are 8-6-1 and it’s possible these two conference foes could meet again in round two of the Class 2A postseason. Pairings came out Tuesday from the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Greene County hosts MOC-Floyd Valley (Orange City) in Jefferson on May 20. A win by the Rams and a Nevada first round win would mean a second match in Nevada between the Cubs and Rams on May 27.

Greene County held a 4-1 halftime lead at Nevada, but the Cubs mounted a comeback. Goals for the Rams came from juniors Franklin Regalado, his fifteenth, Fredy Aguilar, his eleventh, and Teagan Chisholm, his fourth. The lone assist for the Rams was from sophomore Ethan Carstens, his seventh. Goalkeeper Marcus Ball, a senior, had 12 saves.

All that’s left on Greene County’s regular season schedule is a girl/boy doubleheader May 16 in Jefferson vs. East Sac County (Lake View). The girls play at 5:30 p.m. and that can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The boys game will follow. Postseason play starts next week with the girls on the road to face Harlan on May 19 and the boys at home on May 20 vs. MOC-Floyd Valley.
