The Paton-Churdan girls and boys head to Madrid today for a Class 1A track & field State Qualifying Meet. Starting time is 4 p.m. and the Rockets have been led all season long by sophomore Trevon Keely, one of Class 1A’s top all-around track & field male athletes.
Going into Madrid today, Keely ranks first in the state in 1A in the high jump, clearing the bar at six feet, eight inches earlier this week. He ranks second among competitors at Madrid in the long jump at 21 feet even, second in the 200 meter dash in 22.70 seconds, and third in the 100 at :11.25.
In Class 1A, only the event winner automatically qualifies for the Coed State Meet May 22-24 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The rest of the field of 24 per event is filled out with the best 14 performances statewide that did not place first at a State Qualifying Meet.
