The Stuart Public Library will be hosting a special Books and Badges program tomorrow.

Librarian Rachel Majerus says that Books and Badges is an event held on the third Thursday every month, where Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger reads a book to and has a themed activity for the youth of the community. Majerus shares that this month’s program is about the  “Hungry Caterpillar’s First Summer,” and will be held at Community Care Center instead of the library. She tells Racoon Valley Radio why they decided to hold the event at another location.

“Well, we did have a donation of seeds and planting items come into the library, and with a little bit of discussion and thought, we figured out that maybe our residents over at the (Community) Care Center would enjoy the opportunity to watch the littles learn about plants. And in the process of that, we can also help them to decorate their own living space.”

Majerus mentions that the West Central Valley FFA, along with Advisor Molly Dolch will also be participating in the event, and that they will be doing some outdoor planting of larger plants. Books and Badges is geared towards toddlers and young children not yet in school.
