An organization within the Perry community is holding an event on Saturday revolving around a specific type of art.
Atelier at 1109, 1109 2nd Street, in Perry will be home to the Annual Fiber Festival that will be happening from 10am-4pm on Saturday. Co-Organizer Ashley Anderson illustrates that the festival focuses on fiber art, such as knitting, weaving, crocheting, as well as textile art with an emphasis on quilting and other sowing activities. She shares the theme of the event is “There’s No Place Like Fiber Festival in Perry,” similar to the Wizard of Oz. Anderson reveals that guests will be able to see a 14-foot structure of the character Dorothy in front of the building, as she describes her favorite part of the occasion.
“I absolutely love fiber art. You can take wool or animal fiber from the animal itself (then) clean it, scour it, (and) get it ready for spinning. I spin, and then I knit, weave and crotchet. So it’s kind of nice to combine everything and just get a finished product that you’re extremely proud of. And we want to focus on fiber art before it goes away, because all these older forms of art are not getting passed down all the time, so we want to make sure we keep it relevant.”
Anderson highlights that from 10:30am-12:30pm there will be a special guest speaker from Cascade Yarns that will give a presentation on the products they have. She says many vendors from across Iowa will put their fiber art out on display and that there is no fee to experience the festival.
