A non-profit organization in Jefferson is hosting an annual event for pets and their owners to lessen the burden of locating their furry friend if they are lost.

The People for Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Greene County are having their Microchipping Clinic on Saturday from noon-3pm at the Community Animal Shelter in Jefferson. PAWS President Ann Wenthold says the cost is just $25 per animal to have them microchipped by a licensed local veterinarian, which the pet is then registered to the owner, allowing facilities like the animal shelter to quickly locate who the owners are if that animal should be lost.

Wenthold recommends scheduling an appointment to guarantee your pet will get a microchip, otherwise there could be a wait for any walk-ins. She points out that they block off two appointments every 15 minutes per hour, but more can happen. Wenthold states that about 15 animals were microchipped last year and that they offer this service to the public as another way their organization can help care for someone’s pet in the community. She adds that PAWS strongly believes in microchipping animals for their safety and overall well-being.

Any pet owner that wants to take advantage of this opportunity, must have their dog or cat on a leash at all times. To schedule an appointment, call PAWS at 515-386-2340 and leave a voicemail. One of the PAWS members will return your call within 24 hours.
