Postseason play begins around the state for track and field today. Perry will be traveling to Winterset for their assignment. The coed meet hosted by the Huskies will see Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Clarke, Des Moines Hoover, Pella, Perry, and Saydel.
The State Qualifying Meet is for a chance to compete at Drake Stadium in Des Moines for a 2025 Iowa High School State Track & Field Championship. The top two individuals in each event reach the State Tournament and “wildcard” slots will be given out to the next best 8 performances across the 7 other 3A regional sites to fill the entire field in Des Moines
The girl’s side of the meet will be tough with Pella and Bondurant-Farrar, but Coach Hardy is still confident in his squad. “I think the events that we’re strongest in… which is probably the Distance Medley, 4×4, and the 400 hurdles. I think we’ve got a very good chance at getting those three things qualified.”
For the boy’s, Coach Lutterman knows it will be an uphill battle. “Our district is pretty packed with Pella, Hoover in the sprints, and Winterset obviously where we’re going so going to be competitive “. He is hopeful Owen Myers will make a third straight trip to the State Tournament. “To see a Owen step up and run his best time ever in the hurdles which is asking a lot of Owen which we always do. He currently has a third seed.”
The meet begins at 4P at Winterset.
