Stuart Police Department Community Programs is preparing for their fourth year of the Summer Youth Programs.

Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger says that the programs are a fun way to give youths something to do during the summer months when they are out of school. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that planning begins well before that happens.

“Yeah, there’s a lot of kind of behind the scenes work that goes on to making the summer camps happen. So I kind of start planning those just after Christmas, getting dates reserved, getting tickets reserved for like Iowa Cubs game planning with Anne (Riordan) from Springbrook State Park in the DNR. She kind of really helps with the Springbrook programming, you know, as her job as an educator and naturalist.”

Guisinger says that the first two programs will be at Springbrook State Park, and will take place on June 5th and 11th, with the first to be on land activities, while the second will be on water activities. She adds that the third program will be on June 19th and at the Blank Park Zoo, with the final program on June 25th, with an Iowa Cubs game.
