
On Thursday the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs track teams traveled to Waukee Northwest High School for the Class 4A state qualifying meet. Both teams found success, as the boys placed second overall as a team with 123 points and the girls placed third with 96 points.
For the Mustang boys, four Mustangs qualified for the state meet as junior Darien Walker qualified in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.49. Sophomore Jack Meggison placed first in the boys 800m in 1:52.27 while senior Elias Arbuckle placed second in the 1600m and 3200m. Christopher Opoku-Sekyere placed second in high jump with a jump of 6 feet to qualify for state.
For the relay teams, the boys 1600m distance medley would place first and 4x110m shuttle hurdle team would place second to qualify for state.
For the girls, two Mustangs would qualify in individual events as sophomore Piper Messerly would place first in two events, in the 1500m and 3000m run. In high jump, freshman Madison Messerly would place first with a jump of 5 feet 3 inches. For the relay teams, the girls 4x800m relay team would place first to qualify with a time of 9:24.86 seconds.
