Trevon Keely
Trevon Keely is having quite the sophomore season in track & field. He and his Paton-Churdan teammates took part in a Class 1A State Qualifying Meet in Madrid on Thursday under warm and very windy conditions. In 1A, only the winning event automatically qualifies for State, along with the next best 14 performances per event when comparing all 10 1A meets to fill out the field of 24 per event.
Keely qualified in both jumping events in Madrid and will appear for the Rockets at the State Coed Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. He won the long jump Thursday with a personal best effort of 21 feet, 10 inches, and was first in the high jump at six feet, three inches. He was second in the 200 meter dash in 22.75 seconds and fourth in the 100 in 11.62 seconds. The Iowa High School Athletic Association is expected to release the full list of qualifiers later today, so Keely could still qualify for one or both running events.
No other P-C event for girls or boys was close to State qualification.
