A Perry organization is hosting an event today featuring an art form from a specific genre.
Atelier at 1109 is heading the Annual Fiber Festival at the Hotel Pattee, 1112 Willis Avenue, in Perry from 10am-4pm. According to Co-Organizer Ashley Anderson, the event revolves around fiber art, which includes knitting, weaving, crocheting, quilting, and other sewing activities.
Anderson outlines the theme this year is “There’s No Place Like Fiber Festival in Perry,” in relation to the story of the “Wizard of Oz.” Anderson highlights that guests who stop by the hotel will see a 14-foot display of the character Dorothy and can take pictures. She says the event went under the name of the “Fiber Art Fair,” until 2020, but then it was changed to “Fiber Festival” because the style had a resurgence.
“Fiber art kind of got really popular in 2020, since everyone was staying at home and knitting, crocheting, (and) picking up other skills. So we just kind of wanted to reinvent it in a way.”
Anderson describes there will be a special guest speaker from Cascade Yarns from 10:30am-12:30pm that will give a presentation on the products they have. She adds that many vendors from across the state will have their fiber art on display, which is free to enter for people of all ages.
