The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Track and Field Teams are shaping up to participate in a variety of events at the state meet later this week in Des Moines.
ADM is taking close to 50 athletes to compete in 30 events at Drake Stadium across the span of three days. The Tigers traveled to Glenwood where their section of the state qualifying meet took place, with both the boys and girls winning the meet. Earlier this year, the ADM squads also came out on top as the Raccoon River Conference Champions. Tiger Girls Head Coach Bart Mueller wants to get the best out of his athletes, but the main priority is making sure the girls are having fun.
“Don’t change a lot. We can’t ignore that this is a bigger deal now, but at the same time, you still do the same things that you’ve done all year. We really talk about positive talk to themselves, to each other, mental imagery, breathing, (and) relaxing because that all plays a big role too. So we focus on some of that mental psychology stuff a little more this time of year. And our girls are really close and they care for each other and support each other. It’s a positive, fun environment and we want to keep it that way too, even through these big meets, we’re still smiling, laughing, and having a good time together.”
ADM will have athletes compete in the 30 events from Thursday through Saturday.
