A Boone woman was recently sentenced to probation after a jury found her guilty in Greene County District Court.
According to court documents, 45-year-old Tanya Helmrichs was found guilty by a jury on March 6th for a Class D Felony for her third or subsequent offense for possession of methamphetamine. Earlier this month, District Associate Court Judge Joseph McCarville suspended a five year prison sentence and placed her on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.
The charge stemmed from a June 4, 2023 incident in Grand Junction. Helmrichs dropped a baggie, that contained methamphetamine, near a register inside the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. Video surveillance from the business that a Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy reviewed saw Helmrichs dropping the baggie with the drug inside.
Court documents show that Helmrichs had the fine and surcharge suspended, but was ordered to pay over $700 in court-appointed attorney fees and court costs.
