The next fundraising event for the Perry Chamber of Commerce to generate money for this year’s fireworks drive begins today.

Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti explains the Grocery Bill Roundup is happening now through next Monday, May 26th. She pinpoints that this will be one of the last major opportunities to raise money for Perry’s 4th of July Fireworks Show.

Pasutti shares that both Fareway and HyVee in Perry will be participating, as customers will be asked to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, and that additional money will be used towards the fireworks. She describes that people don’t have to stop at the nearest dollar, but can round up as much money that they desire. Pasutti gives an average of how much money is usually donated through the Grocery Bill Roundup.

“It’s really varied over the years. Sometimes there’s other roundups going on or other initiatives that make it tricky, but on a good year, a thousand dollars per grocery store is definitely doable, but we’ve had some challenges over the years with different logistics, but definitely being able to push that button to round up makes it super easy.”

Pasutti details the chamber has an $18,000 goal to reach and thanks to donations brought in from the Big Boom Bracket Battle and the Radio Pie Auction, the total amount sits just shy of $16,000.
